Oppositional

"Being contrary"
Is worn like an honor badge
Proud and resolute

Then, I came along
Trying to reign on his parade
I thought it was love

Not understanding
How he developed those skills,
His identity

He is "going mad"
But does not know what that means
When asked directly

Turning things around
I confuse the messages
I don't understand

Silent ignoring
Creates apathetic calm
Not really loving

It is all in the mind
Clogged up mental arteries
Emotional plaque

I want to breathe in
Releasing the stress outward
Letting it all go

Oppositional
Pride in dissenting voices
Noncompliant airs

Feeling restricted
By false positivity
He recoils from view

"He can dish it out"
Everyone is out of step
He sees it clearly

I will get caught soon
I can't teach him anything
With smothering love
