Open the Windows and Welcome Spring
Open the Windows and Welcome the Spring!
By Cynthia Patience
Open the windows! What’s this, now I hear?
Gentle rain is retreating and springs’ dawning is near!
Raindrops from treetops fade away to a few,
Glistening, they merge with the delicate dew.
The air fills the senses with its earthy perfume.
And morning’s rays dance on the floor of my room.
Tiny sparrows, once sheltered on my window’s ledge,
Now bathe in a puddle at my sidewalk’s edge.
What fun as they fuss and flutter their wings;
Ruffling their feathers as the morning dove sings.
The puppy barks and scratches the screen,
He can hardly wait to join this glad scene.
He knows that spring calls us from” inside” to “out.”
It's time for us to be out and about
So, put away the wintry fare and all it may bring
And open the windows now, to welcome the Spring!
