Only Words

To be played with finger picking in the key of G.

I know you can be so confused
With all the riddles I speak to you.
All my words you did adore.
Could it be you don't care for them anymore.
I'm not responsible for what you think you heard,
After all you know they're only words.

Let's go back to where your mind used to lie.
I'll take the wheel, you won't back seat drive.
Sometimes I think you forget what I'm here for.
Sometimes I think you don't care anymore.
This isn't just another line, tell me what's going on
I'll hear you call this time.

Only words
As they ring across your fragile ears
Only words
I only speak I cannot hear
And somehow I find something new to say to you
Only words
None of them are here to stay.
They're only words and
Maybe I'm better off that way.

I know that we can be so confused,
With all the memories we love to use.
And all the things we still adore.
I guess that's what we're both here for.
And if there's just one thing we both have learned,
It's that you can't just throw away all that you've earned
And all the things we've said before
Maybe won't be only words anymore.

What a beautiful day to sit and read the many diverse poems here at the Soup. I am so happy yours were among the ones I am able to read today Kristopher. I hope your weekend is exciting and so full of life and that you might find even more inspiration to write. Love, Carol XXXX
