Only Heaven Knows

Go ahead and leave the earth, Tom
You left us when it was your time
I wanted to write a goodbye song
Bet that’s not what you had in mind

You told me you were lonely most of the time
Never at work, but always at home
At work you had friends who saw you shine
At home you were often alone
Longing to end the emptiness in your soul
And you will now, you will now
Now that you’re not alone, Tom

Walk lightly towards heaven
Float lightly on a cloud
You are the one who is chosen
Know you let no one down

God says he was looking for someone
Who would promise to do their part
Someone who would toast to the good times
Someone who would feel with their heart
Someone who will sing James Brown tunes

And, that’s you, Tom
That’s all you
