Only Autumn Once

In the middle of May Or on Mother's Day She read the blog that made it all go away All the hoping And coping And roping Calfs and mountains she climbed The trees insist on changing And children refuse to stay small All the rearranging In the world won't prevent the next fall Another woman wrote If I only get to be Amber once And she heard the discordant note In her soul, Dunce Whispered her self doubt And she wanted to find the open range And ride until the colors ceased to change
