One Wish

I was quite out of breath
running from you in my head
so I kicked the powderpuff
of dandelion seeds off its stem
with my boot instead
out there in the field
that place so unnaturally peaceful
that it can't possibly be real
because reality is harsh
a rough astroturf lawn
with sharp edges and corners
to stub your toe on
when you're just trying to escape
trying to find a place to be free
a place like a field with wildflowers
which... I guess is the kind of place
you'd find me, failing
an escape from reality
kicking at the powderpuffs
not bothering to make a wish
except, well, maybe one like this:
a wish to get you out of my mind
one wish to finally leave you behind
