One Step At a Time
She was totally overwhelmed.
Shut down completely.
Even her legs would not work.
Paralyzed in mind and body.
Her grandmother came to visit.
She was their last choice
But everyone else had tried.
"Ce n’est pas la mer à boire." said the grandmother
The lass remembered her childhood.
She remembered a day she had completely shut down.
She remembered being terrified and afraid.
She remembered her grandmother explaining.
She had to take one day at a time.
She did not have to face a week or a month or a year.
She put her hands out to her grandmother.
Her grandmother gave her a giant hug.
“It will be okay,” her grandmother told her.
The girl put out her shaky feet
and began taking
one step at a time….
