One Sided Love Affair

Loving someone
when they don't love you back
is a uniquely painful thing

Pouring your heart out
to an empty void
leaves a most terrible sting

And a one sided love affair
when I love you and you don't care
it brings me down into despair
and I'm sure you have better things to do
than to bother with my love for you

There's no one there
when I look in the mirror
it's as if I can see through your eyes

'Cause when you look at me
you're not seeing me either
but I guess that it's really no surprise
and I know one day I'll be wise
but until then I'll tell myself lies

This old heart is out of whack
like an echo that won't come back
a locomotive that slipped off the track
and I'm quite sure you've better things to do
than to tell me that you love me too

And I guess that'll just have to do

Very touching Michael. I liked the rhythm of it too. For some reason it made me feel lonely...

Probably because I felt lonely when I wrote it. I had someone in mind while writing. I'm glad you felt a little of what I was trying to convey, and I hope that isn't taken the wrong way. As artists and writers, that's what we hope, what we strive for, to share what we're feeling, and hope someone understands. Your comment shows that you obviously do. Thanks Susan. :)
