One Night

One night of love flew by on wings of dread,
But through it all the joy and hope pressed on.
I feared daylight would tear her from my bed -
The sun came up, a kiss, and she was gone.

The years have passed, I lost that chance to wed.
Yet I recall that night and all she said.
