One Hug

Most people can't tell you...
at any one point in life...
I'm not talking about something...
given by a husband or wife.
I think you'll agree that this statement is true.
Tell me...how many hugs you've been given...
since the time you were two?
From two to adulthood...
how much one can change.
Are you thinking right now that this poem is quite strange?
I'm talking about a child growing up...
how important it is...that you give lot's of hugs...
it helps one feel wanted...it helps one feel loved...
along with God's love that shines from above.
It can have a great impact on who you become.
My counting it was easy...it didn't take long...
but maybe it helped me to grow up to be strong.
One hug I received by my mom growing up...
none by my dad which was fortunate luck.
Although it was tough...I turned out just fine.
I taught myself to give hugs...but it's taken some time.

Pam, a powerful and painful poem. So true, hugs are so healing. Just read an article about brain health...20 second good hugs release dopamine, the feel good chemical in our body. Wow, if parents could work on giving good hugs to their kids every day! Thank you for your insightful poems. I'm gonna go hug my kitty : )

One hug can save a life. You and your beautiful words gives one a hug just in reading each line. Please accept a hug from me. Thank you for the hug back!
