Notes About The Poem

This is a work of fiction in which I needed to use five specific words given by the sponsor in just five lines of a poem. I never had a honeymoon at all, and I am married 44 years later!

Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time, we traveled around Europe very far.
It was our honeymoon, and on a train
inside the comfort of our room in the sleeping car,
you popped the cork and toasted to everlasting love with our champagne.
Long years we tried to make it work, but now alone I travel (and by plane).

Dec. 1, 2019 for Beth Evans' Five Word Challenge Poetry Contest
(I chose English Quintain style because it allows you to use any number of syllables you like per line while sticking to a/b/a/b/b rhyme scheme.)

Beautifully done. I enjoyed thinking of "no honeymoon" and married 44 years later. We had no honeymoon and have been married 48 years.

Well done, Andrea! Your poem flows very smoothly. I had a hard time with mine, perhaps because I assumed that I had to use a prompt word in each line!! ~ Regards // paul

At least you were able to enjoy an honeymoon; many couples don't get that! Aloha! Rico
