Once As Before

Once As Before

        Dr Ranjit Dutta

What has happened to them?
The heart once full of love
Now turned away.
The twinkling eyes once
Filled with hope
Now dim and grey.
Their souls,
Once free and wild but
Now chained and astray.
What has happened to them?

Their voices ,
Once raised with joy but
 Now whispering low,
Their footsteps,
Once light with dance
Now slow and go.
Their laughter,
 Once music to the air
But now echoes anew.
What has happened to them?
I want their love,
I want their light ,
I want their laughter.
Have they lost on their way
In a world gone awry?
Have the forgotten
To touch the blues of the sky?
Are the black greedy demons
Swallowed silvery nights?
Oh Almighty!
Let them make
The people once again,
To be meant to be before.
