On Wycombe Hill
In
a stand
of thinnings-
picked by and by
a bodger
turns his pole-
sweat drips in his
eye;
the
blade glides
to and fro-
on his homemade
lathe;
one
by one
the pile grows-
legs of beech and
elm.
