On the Promenade

On the promenade they stroll, The Hokas and Adidas, While in between the pigeons squawk And what they mean is "Feed us!" Nikes and New Balance add To Sunday's march of sneakers, With Saucony's and OC's on The feet of mileage seekers. Some Skechers even make the scene With Brooks and Reeboks showing; All of them, at varied paces, Coming here or going. Growing up, we all had Keds Or cheaper imitations. Nowadays, the choice is vast To match one's inclinations.

As I've aged, my feet prefer a good pair of sneakers rather than dress shoes. I'm not brand conscious, however, not at the absurd prices they go for! A pair from Walmart's does nicely, thank you. / Maurice

Manhattan is where some women still suffer heels. They are in pain, it’s hard to watch. When I used to drive my father to chemo, sometimes I waited in my car not to get a ticket, and felt sorry for the women in heels.

Another nod to the new and the old. Love how you did not overdo the nostalgia (at which point it can become maudlin)! ~ P. F. Flyer

Ha! No, but I do buy exercise sneakers and like to check out all the brands, although I tend to stick to Saucony. Hoka is very popular around here but is twice the price of my usual ones. Thanks for the comment!
