Premiere Contest WinnerOn Golden Pond

On Golden Pond

And dear yes, here we are in our winter of life,
slowly rowing through years on this old golden pond.
	Such a long way we've come ...
now, how far do we go
when we'll know there is nothing to see there beyond.

Let us bask in the sunlight of our golden pond;
let the sunrays dance softly on this rippling lake.
	Let the calmness wrap us
		in its sweetest cocoon,
as we travel along to tomorrow's daybreak.

Oh, how lovely this sun and its shawl of blue sky!
Let us drink all this in like the finest red wine.
	Such a long way we've come ...
now, how far do we go
until life sets its mark for the end of our time.

As we travel along to the next new daybreak,
let us drink in the beauty we here now attend.
	Let's be thankful for days
that have blessed both our lives,
for our sunset is waiting around the next bend.

Hi, Mike. Thank you very much for your lovely comments about this poem. I have seen the movie and know the music, both very emotional. So, the poem was based on those feelings, plus the fact that my husband and I are in the 'golden' years. So my last stanza had very personal meanings to me. It is always a pleasure to read your wonderful comments. Thank you again! Hugs, Sandra

NICE ONE SANDRA! I like this very much as a lyric. "Such a long way we've come...now how far do we go, when we know there is nothing, to see there beyond." Always makes me sad when anything good has to end! Sigh.

I'm just now listening to "On Golden Pond" for the first time ... It's a pretty song, and I can see how it would inspire poetry. You penned a contemplative poem ... too far along to turn back now, but too young to not appreciate what lies around the bend for the next adventure. Nice thoughts in this, Sandra.

Thank you, Tim. I am pleased that you enjoyed my poem. The song is lovely and the movie very melancholy about an older couple trying to appreciate life when it may be slipping away. Thank you for your visit and supportive comment. Sandra
