On Birthdays
Strange,
though another year passes,
I don't feel older
despite the wrinkled brow and graying hair.
The years though
appear to have slipped by so quickly
and the new year that once lay ahead
suddenly seems a mere reflection in the mirror.
Where does time go
when babes in arms have grown up and old
and I in my experience and memory
have become the sage of the times that passed.
Give me a moment
to view the past in album pictures
of the times long gone by
and wonder how easily the years fly.
Don't count the birthdays
let them slide into yesterday
while clinging to the now
and completion of all the plans we made.
