On a Moonless Night

In one moment, the night shattered
27 years of dreams.
In that moment, my love mattered
as little as my screams.
The moment your blood spattered
across the torn seams
of my heart, empty and tattered;
was the moment, my schemes
and grand illusions were scattered
as eclipsed moonbeams.
In that dark moment, as the gun clattered
to the floor.
