Old Tortoise the Wise One: Iii
3
one early morning by the banks of river elele
old tortoise the wise bump’d into a gazelle
’twas like elegance meeting with beauty
nay! ’twas wisdom finds the garden of witty
in the absurd – “old tortoise!” the other did hail
“friend!” said the wise, “a red tease turns cruel
“where the toad at noon did a racing weird”
"smooth words! then follow to the field –
o, follow & teach a gazelle to be wise!”
“friend!” said the wise, “tempt not the wise,!”
“nay! no temptation! the pay is secured”
& old tortoise followed his path of greed.
