Old Tortoise the Wise One: Ii
2
indeed, he was reckoned the wisest
as he laid a wisdom bag by his chest;
ah, mbe the tortoise, a full-bearded beast
as were the associates of his deep forest –
& he was proud to stand his head erect
such as made one like a governor-elect!
his dream of an appropriate mansion in mind
tho’ of limbs weary, smart was his aging mind
to discern that none in the province of beasts
made yet an invention in aid of the empire of beasts
old nwaoporocha chose unhurried life to lead
& to revamp a riverside haven his mustard seed!
“the forest made a great pasture for all” thot he
– yet his lazy limbs contrived the crafty tree
that summed up his four-score & seven years
nervous & gloomy was he for the naught of days
spent – yet, old mbe opted for a slow-smart life
wishing to refurbish his haven without strife!
