Old Road Turtle Blues

I'm an old road turtle, baby
Play by the turtle Golden Rule
Just a hard shell turtle, baby
What my mama said is true
Steady all the way, lady
Might be slow but 'aint no fool

Should’ve been there by now, baby
That’s what the signs all showed
'Aint lyin’ to you, baby
This is something I am owed
Don’t understand it, lady
How I'm turned over on the road

Some say it was fate, baby
Why I’m stuck here on the ground
All those turtles talkin’, baby
Sure got me all turned ‘round
Tried to figure it out, lady
But it’s just me all the way down
