Oh, My Darlings

Oh, my Children; how thee I neglect! Self-absorbed in Percocet Mired in pain, I should like to explain- That I am far from perfect A better father you deserve: Better-tempered, kinder moods One not so consumed by nerves And left to bitter broods Oh, my Children, how you Sorrow For your father, and his affections Hope, my darlings, for the morrow That he will find a new direction *Portrait of a Poet Contest Entry* ~JustThatArchaicPoet aka Chan 9-1-13

Chan What a powerful and emotionally heartfelt write. This tugs at the heartstrings and touches the readers heart. It's so sad when children have to endure this kind of sorrow and despair. Great job Thanks so much for the kind words on my Rare And True poem. Hugs and Love

You are brilliant and I do feel compassion for the children who suffer with their parent's addictions. I haven't read such eloquently written darkness since Poe..

Your words delight me beyond measure, Karen. This piece was heavily influenced by Poe, and positively drips of him in the last stanza, I think. It spans three generations of neglectful fathers, beginning with my grandfather, my father and ending, of course, with myself. Thank you for stopping by, Karen :)
