The Whiskey Taster’s Flavor Guide

oh Honey I am Protected

she ran into my hospital room
no mask, no hazard suit, no footie slippers
I was stunned, shocked, surprised

The door has specific instructions
a large X
you cannot come in here unless you are suited up
I am contagious; there is a fear factor

You can’t be in here like that, I told her.
She was wearing a nun’s hat, looked like my 82 year old mother
Oh, honey, I am protected, she said.

“I came here to pray with you”.
She took my hand, we prayed
She giggled and ran out.

I have never forgotten this
or
how much she looked like my mother.
