Oh But a Speck Am I

I'd love to climb a Redwood tree
Three hundred feet or more,

A leviathan, forged in wood
Sat on the forest floor.

A mighty tree, a monument
For centuries it has grown

All this from a tiny seed
That dwelt inside a cone.

Oh but a speck am I
As I stand next to thee,

I think that I shall never see,
A poem lovely as a tree.

Your entry is a Fave for me Gary! I have seen these giants and indeed they make us seem so small. Some have endured fires. They are magnificent! Congratulations on your podium win my friend! xxoo

Taking in nature's majesty can certainly make us feel small in relation to the world and universe. I love the way you tied in the quote from Kilmer's poem. A perfect ending. Your writing is clearly interesting, skilled and easy to follow. Best wishes in Silent One's contest! Hugs, Carolyn
