The first dog i ever had was Snoopy. I found he when I went sleigh riding with one of my friends. I played hooky from school that day because of the snowfall...lol  It was well worth it.

It was the last snowfall of winter's end I went out sleighing with my best friend Twelve inches of snow ~ sunny skies ~ a perfect blend We trekked with cardboard boxes ~ around the bend A long dirt path ~ through baron woods A red fox curled in a ball ~ he caught my eye Quietly we walked ~ as we passed him by We covered our faces with our jacket hoods A mile walk ~ was sleigh-ride hill A refrigerator box was our perfect ride And so was it Snoop's ~ when he jumped inside Woohoo ~ Yee haw ~ a winter's end thrill Snooping around ~ before he jumped inside A stray puppy ~ a beagle ~ lost and alone We played ~ his tail wagged ~ I took him home He was scared ~ but playful ~ he barked and cried Mom said "no" ~ I cried ~ she felt sad Begging her please ~ she finally gave in I knew if I cried, I'd eventually win I named him Snoopy~ he was the first dog I ever had Of winter's end~ this sure was the best The towns people knew him ~ he was liked by them all They knew I had found him ~ at sleigh-ride hill by the mall I had him for sixteen years ~ I was blessed Enclosed Rhyme - September 2018 Poetry Contest Sponsored by Dear Heart 9/19/2018

Charlie, 'you ain't nothin' but a houn' dog' fits your poem so well. My first hound dog was named Mutt. Then, there was Jack, Gyp, and last, but not least, Tar Baby. All were special. Some of God's creatures just have a way of weaving themselves into our heart and dogs are the number one, followed by horses in the number two spot (my opinion here) and the rest in the opinion of others. Congrats on your win. (You ol' houn' dawg! and wonderful friend!)

LOL, I've been told that before Curtis. You are right my friend, dogs are #1 when it comes to weaving into a our hearts. Some may argue that a cat is a close second. But your view on a horse is well taken. Thank you dear friend. God Bless...Charlie

G'day Charles … I know Snoopy was your mate; your poem is your personal memories, but boy, so many of us fit into your shoes with our own dogs, and that's why your poem is so good - thanks Mate - Lindsay

G'day Lindsay, sorry I've been very busy at work. You hit the nail on the head. So many fit this description whether it's finding a dog in an old refrigerator box or pulling one from the jaws of a croc down under. Any way for sure a dog is a man's best friend. Thank you mate- Charlie

you were very blessed . I enjoyed this tale of SNoopy. So cute that you named him for the cartoon dog. What was a beagle too wasn't it?

Thank you, Andrea. Yes, we had to call him "Snoopy" back in the day we would always let him out to roam the neighborhood. Everyone knew Snoopy he was a joy. FYI yes, the cartoon pup was a beagle lol
