Of a perfect day

I crossed upon an Autumn day
But passed it by in haste.
I’d want of sleep and then of pay
And had no time to waste.

The Autumn day wade over me,
The sun rolled down so soon.
Twas then I bit with bitter freeze
Pervading from the moon.

The wintertime had come too quick,
My time along gone swift.
The fire from my withered wick
Sits dimming from the drift.

Would God give me the Fall again
If promised I to give?
Or would I give way to Satan,
To waste a life not lived.
