Oblivion
Born into oblivion
No-one knew my name
No trace of my existence
That's from where I came
I crawled out of the darkness
To stand beneath the sun
And raised my flag in triumph
I escaped oblivion
I set upon a journey
To mark my place in time
I kept a daily journal
And wrote the words in rhyme
The path was long and narrow
I had to tread it light
At times when it would widen
I had to fight a fight
Nothing would come easy
I had to persevere
And moral obligations
Where things I would adhere
I scaled the highest mountain
To see the other side
I knew that there was something
That life was trying to hide
I dived the deepest ocean
To gain a view beneath
I saw the bottom feeders
And a barren corral reef
I tried to make some sense
From all the things I found
But looking back in retrospect
They're just etchings on the ground
Disappointment shrouds me
In a cloak of much dispare
The only thing I've found here
Is a cloud of toxic air
I'll journey back to where I came
Surroundings there are few
Oblivion may not be much
But....
It beats all that I knew
