Oasis of My Soul

Welcome to the desert
		No oasis in sight
Self created madness
		Sun-baked, just right
Walk with me through sand
		Glass shards cut your toes
Miles of emptiness, where are you
Buried hearts, but where? Who knows

Up another sandy hill
	Here is where she fell
Into that bottomless labyrinth that is
	Your heart; their wishing well
Over another sea of sand
	A sucking whirlpool of souls
Mixed with promises of love and life
	And hoped for, promised goals

Across a range of gritty dunes
			Tombstones line the way
Buried hearts of sand-blind pawns
			Emotions ripped away
Ghostly voices speak from the sand
			Little you’ve done is good
All around there’s nothing but sand
I’d get away if I could

Swirling sands spurred by winds
As lies leave me twisting in the wind
Footprints of others long since buried
With the words I’ve had to rescind
The mirage of safe haven just within reach
A tease so deserving and droll
Empty expanse I invite others to leave
Virgin sand for miles around, oasis of my soul
