Nursing Home Boogie

Apple blossom boogie Whoopee Whoop Whoop Double time and triple time Have some vegetable soup Fats Dominoes in the hallway Shuffleboard too Twist with Chubby Checkers Add morphine to my stew I’m catching glimpses Dancing round my nursing room bed The nurse starts screaming loudly I guess I’ve fallen on my head Give her extra pills someone whispers. Dancing with Elvis’ blue suede shoes I shut my eyes and pretend I don’t hear these nuts and cuckoos Prancing around the hallway The alarms go off so loud I’ve lost a lot of dignity In this weird old people crowd

This was one of those poems that takes off like a shotgun blast; I was just holding on for dear life during the first eight or nine lines. Then I thought "NOW WHAT?"

This poem reminds me of how my dear Aunt was treated at her nursing home. They had her so medicated that when she stood to go to the restroom she was dizzy and fell and hit her head and died. She was very bright in mind and spirit and it was so sad what happened to her. She was teaching the others how to embroider. I enjoyed this Caren. xxoo

I love to embroider. I used to teach children at school how to embroider; as far as I know only one out of twelve still does it.
