Now and Then
Now and Then…
We’re in a hole now
And we can’t dig out today
We’re losing control now
So I guess tomorrow is the only way
Week to week, you know we’re living check to check
If you look into my eyes you’ll see that I’m a wreck
I’m feeling run down, nothing I can say or do
I’m loading the gun now, just pull the trigger and I’m through
I can’t close my eyes and Lord knows I need to sleep
But I can’t free my mind long enough that I may count the sheep
You’re in your dream world where each breath brings you peace
And I’m wide awake at night with pen in hand as my release
The law of the jungle, only the fit survive
It must be the will of God then, keeping me alive
I spin my wheels, without moving I watch my tires smoke
And I hear the laughter all around, without hearing the joke
I’m rambling on about how difficult it seems to be
I think about the four of us, I think of you and me
We used to have it easy, we used to have it made
We used to understand how the game was played
How quickly everything changes and the rules aren’t the same
How friends can turn to strangers, how time can’t hide the pain
I see, think, and feel
I duck, dodge, and hide
And I wear a veil just to shroud the tears I cry
…The room is cool and comfortable now,
So I will try to sleep once more…
