Notre Dame

Never again will Notre Dame grace Paris the same. Only ashes will remain of the beloved Cathedral. Tears flow down her people's saddest cheeks as fire Razes this elegant ancient wooden structure while Evasive flames burn out of fireman's control. Devastation looms large as morning dawns Artifacts irreplaceable and stained glass windows now Memories of eight hundred years mourned worldwide Everyone is saddened by her loss as nations pray today. 4-15-19

Connie this is such an elegant acrostic. I struggle with this form...everything I write comes out choppy... This flows, beautifully.

It's really so sad Connie. I was in ARizona when this happened and then came home and saw this contest. I actually was inside this cathedral in the 70's but i just can't recall it well enough to think what to say You were so clever to use this acrostic form!

I have not seen Notre Dame. I have only fan idea from the novel 'Hunch Back of Notre Dame' read in childhood. Yet, feeling sad going thru your poem.

At least they were able to save parts of it and will try to rebuild it to look the same. I have only seen the exterior as I didn't have enough time in Paris to wait to see it. Thank you my friend. xxoo

Hello Connie … The sad fact is it can be rebuilt but can't be replaced. Notre Dame tragically is a memory now. Nicely written Connie; thank you - Lindsay

You wrote a wonderful tribute to this beloved place, Connie. Though the sad event will never be forgotten.. and some things perhaps cannot be replaced, the leader of France expressed great confidence that they will rebuild. Yes--the towers were saved.

Well written Connie, such a tragedy to see it on fire. Thankfully no one was hurt, and experts' are saying apart from the spire the main structure survived the devastation and they will be able to rebuild it. Tom

The towers were standing last news I saw. I will watch the news tomorrow morning as we are 12 hours behind Paris time here in Hawaii. Today was a really sad day for many. Thank you Tom. xxoo

Do any of us know what started this fire? I have PTSD with running from flames every summer. When I visited France, we went by this amazing beauty but didn’t take the tour (I thought, next time). I guess we always think it will be there. We are all in shock and mourning with France! Thank you Connie for this contribution and thoughtful tribute. You captured the heartbreak and the disbelief so masterfully. It’s wise to set in poetry these historic events. I love the genre chosen!

I, like you, were there but didn't have enough time to visit. I only took photos of the exterior, and chose to visit the Louvre instead. I am so sorry I missed seeing it. I felt so badly to see this important beloved Cathedral on fire. Thank you for your kind comment. I was drawn to use the acrostic for my tribute. xxoo
