Nothing Ventured
Who were these men
who stood on deck,
and sailed the seven seas?
To hoist the sails,
and tell the tales
throughout the centuries.
Navigation by the stars
to islands then unknown,
like bitter root or passion fruit
the seeds of wisdom sown.
Adventure bound, they left home port
though some did not return.
They chased their dreams,
but met their fate
to sink or swim or burn...
When their hourglass is empty,
and the sea has laid it's claim,
will history mark these sailors,
or even know their names?
Nothing ventured, nothing gained
is that the measure of a man?
The truth for each - it lies within
they sail.... because they can.
