Nothing To Say

Sentences that make no sense, Words that are likewise afflicted. Messages that are at best dense, A vessel of verbiage is depicted. Such is the state of modern verse Designed to be deciphered by no one. I doubt it can get a syllable worse, Though I speak not of all, only some. Shouldn't a poem present meaning? Shouldn't it have something to convey? Should I care what a poet is dreaming If his/her dreams have nothing to say? Lofty, soaring phrases are meritable, Unless composed at wasted expense. To abide them one must be charitable, Then seek a poem premised on sense.

I applaud the truth in this poem, Paul, so well stated. Ted Badger, a Texas Poet, founded the Lucidity Poetry Journal, and the annual Lucidity Poetry Retreat in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, because he abhors obscurity in poetry. We attended the retreat in 2004, and haven't missed since. The next one is April, 2015. Very affordable. Check it out.

Jan, Your wisdom exceeds mine, no question about it. I do think, however, that modern poetry would gain a much wider market if some poets weren't so obtuse. Be that as it may, as always I value and appreciate your comments (in fact, I cherish them). God Bless.

A special "thank you" to you, Dorian, because I worried my poem might give offense. Your kind, supportive words are comforting; I couldn't appreciate them more. God Bless!
