Not the Owl and the Pussycat

I saw the paper and said “you have to be kidding, right?”
For there on the front page was owl and pussy cat, right in sight.
They are not THE owl and the pussy cat, someone said in a snotty way.
But what if they are? I asked, thinking it would be great today.

They can’t be, because those two are fiction, right?
As if the newspaper isn’t fiction? I asked him, ready to fight.
We tiptoed around each other the rest of the day.
That was six hours ago, and now we’re ready to play.
