Not Our Choice

You will never see him grown.
No, it isn’t fair
to see you lying there,
wishing we could postpone
this thing written in the book.
Being who we are,
our road may be less far.
We may not have long to look,
for the pathway we should take.
What we see
as the who we wish to be,
may be short, narrow in the wake.
