Not Good Enough for You

I saw the light in you, warm and wide, But felt too small to walk beside. You gave me love, pure and strong— But deep inside, I feared I’d do you wrong. You dreamed of futures, of holding tight, But I saw shadows in my sight. Not because I didn’t care— But because I knew I wouldn’t be fair. You deserve someone steady, whole, Not a man still searching for control. I tried to be enough, I really did, But love can’t bloom in where truth is hid. I’m not the man who can make you proud, Not one to stand tall, speak loud. You’ll find a love that gives you peace, With no half-love or pain to lease. Forgive me for the dreams we spun, For stepping back when we’d just begun. I’ll fade away, like I said I would— Not because I didn’t love you. But because you should.
