Not Awake

No thought aloud
in the dark of night
No time to decide
what’s wrong and what’s right.

Hide your head, close your eyes
keep them shut tight.
No way can you run
or let your feet take flight.

When will it come,
when can I see
what I have been afraid of
what’s inside of me.

It’s all right here
in my head, in my soul
in the darkest of places,
places I’m afraid to go.

If I just wake up
If I just see the light
I’ll know it’s a dream
and thank God I’m alive.
