Not A Coward

He took the coward’s way out
Over and over they flout.
Only those who tried to end
Can comprehend the blend.
For truly committing to no return
Is rooted in constant yearn.
Trying to cross the other side
Requires the loss of pride.
The irony of being a suicide
Is the longing to survive.

The burning desire to be loved.
Hope simply caught in rope.

your poem brought a huge lump to my throat Mark, especially the final two lines - seems suicide is on the rise in young men - we have a support group called 'Isle listen' and they have helped many who had though about ending it all. hugs Jan xx

Thank you. No need to worry. My attempt was 20+ years ago and I even was a volunteer crisis counselor after it for 5 years. I was simply inspired by the robin williams/Iron Maiden aspect of this contest.
