No Ships Tonight

The lighthouse hums beneath a ghostly sky,
fog bruises the restless sea's breath,
no ships will come tonight.

Thank you so much, Paige--that truly means a lot to me. I wanted this one to feel like a quiet ache, and I’m so touched that it resonated with you. Short lines, but full heart.

Her labor is listening for the last break, newborn life looms heavy on the ancient hour, the waves are rolling in hot, she is prepared for paradise raw...J.A.B.

Your response feels like it could be whispered from the shore, Justin--thank you. “Prepared for paradise raw” stopped me cold… it’s fierce and fragile, just like the piece itself. I always look forward to the way you echo themes back with new resonance--it’s like hearing the tide answer the first line. Grateful, as always, for your poetic presence.
