No One Can Be Better Off Than Me
When the light of day is climbing
And all the words I’ve heard are rhyming
And everyone around me laughs and sings;
When the sky looks so appealing as I gaze into her ceiling,
No one can be better off than me.
When the rivers’ slowly rolling
And kisses I have stolen
From someone in my life dear life did bring;
While staring up at stars in space and I still see her lovely face,
No one can be better off than me.
As the moon is full in measure
And I’m gazing at that treasure
Shining down on oceans as we dream;
When dew in grass is fading fast
And time is lost both near and past,
No one can be better off than me.
When now and then I see a friend
From back inside my bank of memories;
Or when wheat fields lay a ‘golden
And a crimson rose is unfoldin’,
No one can be better off than me.
And when summer dies before my eyes
And like a bird I’m ready to fly free;
I pray that I can still love more
On both sides of that mighty shore
For no one could be better off than me.
