No More

His hand hits me and I go numb A swollen lip, the outcome Frozen in silence upon the ground My courage cannot be found I retreat into my mind Leaving all else behind Locking away parts of who I am Keeping it safe from a madman Black and blue color my cheek The physical abuse is making me weak Mentally, I am also stretched thin My life threatened by a “has been” No escape I am trapped Over and over I am slapped My eyes swollen from the tears Pain I have endured for years The day finally arrived I got out, I survived Locked away he did go His existence no more than an echo

Elizabeth, The raw pain and imagery in your piece, reminds us all of the harsh realities many deal with everyday behind closed doors. Sad, tragic, real piece. Well written. Christopher Thor Britt
