No Expectations

I felt the rain on my face,
said I'd felt it first
but you said you had
as we walked hand in hand
into the copper tone sun set--
you punch drunk
and me just a little tipsy.

"It was a wonderful party,"
we both said together
then laughed
because neither one of us
had wanted to attend it.

We agreed that life was like that--
when you least expect to
you have a fantastic time

and so it was
we didn't argue
over who'd felt the rain first
just enjoyed it
with uplifted spirits and faces.

A very good write. Free verse, but quite poetic. I give it top marks!
