Hatred spews from his heart It’s in his eyes, in his breath, in his smirk Feels like he could tear me apart I’ve never met an angrier jerk! Resentment silences every hope She is the word bitter screaming out Toward the souls who often mope, Wishing she would just not shout! Hostility grates on my nerves When I remember the way it hurt Often, it seems to be my soul deserves All the pain that darkness does exert! Nastiness draws the shade on light, Erasing the kindness, smiling bright Torturing my feelings in darkest night Wandering if this is all just doubt’s spite! Rancor defies me to believe in love It feels like I can’t win because I’m cursed By this anchor from doubts I can’t dispose of, I have no anchor for rancor, at my worst… It feels like I have been left to drown In the venom of a rage I can’t get free from, This comes from a snake that won’t back down – It is bitter beyond words and I can confirm… There is nothing in animosity – only fear and dread It is surely the delight of God in the One who bled – Who silences the fear and brings our daily bread – It is from His love, His grace, His kindness that we are fed!

The plaintive cry from the depths of despair, with seemingly no way out, and then the glorious rescue—“His love, His grace, His kindness—giving credit where credit is due. Nicely done, Gina!

Dear Gina, the depth of poetic emotion fills the page and my heart with the rich expression of your golden pen. Beautiful, poignant poetry that shines with hope in its last lines for a grand finale! I'm sure this piece will do well in the contest. Warmest wishes and hugs my sweet friend.. ~Susan
