Nights Slip Away

Nights slip away transposed
as the day is lost to cold dark shadows.
Images and figures slight
slide eerily thru faint clouded light.
A winter tide begins its interpose
  settling down early December snows
A blanket on the earth and barren ground
falls warm and protecting without a sound.
A quiet eases in
  where it silences the din.
The days are short deprived of strong light
and the dark is a hollowed long eternal night.
