Nightmare

Sometimes, in the dead of night
do you wake up filled with fright
because night terrors fill your head
and has the sweat soaked through your bed

Your heart is beating much too quick
and you feel like being sick
Sometimes there are even tears
brought on by those nameless fears

The dream, still vivid in your mind
slowly fades as you unwind
Like morning mist, the details fade
until, no more, are you afraid

Then ... far away, across the roofs
comes the sound of running hoofs
As, with the breaking of the day
you hear the night-mare steal away
