Night Shoes
When I was young and frivolous and having so much fun
I danced until I heard the dawn chorus being sung
a sparkly golden hair clip adorned my auburn hair
my beau and I would hit the town like Ginger and Fred Astaire
My feet were dressed exquisitely in magic dancing shoes
an erotic shade of red with sparkly bows and kitten heel
like a million dollars when I danced those shoes would make me feel
we would dance the night away until our night turned into day
to the waltz and the foxtrot and the tango and the jive
just a few of the dances my magic shoes performed
oh such a special time back then, I truly felt alive
Sadly now I’m old and my shoes no longer dance
but if I hear a waltz or a cha cha cha perchance
I clutch my shoes so tenderly and hold them to my heart
as I dance alone my tears well up just as the music starts
my memories still so vivid though my beau now gone, he's dead
I dance this lonely dance with just my night shoes now instead
