Night Shoes

When I was young and frivolous and having so much fun I danced until I heard the dawn chorus being sung a sparkly golden hair clip adorned my auburn hair my beau and I would hit the town like Ginger and Fred Astaire My feet were dressed exquisitely in magic dancing shoes an erotic shade of red with sparkly bows and kitten heel like a million dollars when I danced those shoes would make me feel we would dance the night away until our night turned into day to the waltz and the foxtrot and the tango and the jive just a few of the dances my magic shoes performed oh such a special time back then, I truly felt alive Sadly now I’m old and my shoes no longer dance but if I hear a waltz or a cha cha cha perchance I clutch my shoes so tenderly and hold them to my heart as I dance alone my tears well up just as the music starts my memories still so vivid though my beau now gone, he's dead I dance this lonely dance with just my night shoes now instead Written 12th May 2019 Contest:Night Shoes Sponsor: Anthony Slausin N/A Contest: Strand Select 12 Sponsor: Brian Strand 1st PLACE

I remember how much I loved to dance when young--seems like I was another guy then-- nicely done, Ann--congrats on your win [and I'm sorry for your loss-- it is my greatest fear if I'm honest]

Thank you so much LJ for your lovely comments and visit. I know what you mean about dancing when we were young, but in our heads we can still do it, it's just our wretched bodies that stop us, haha. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

Geart one, Anne,I can relate to this all too well. Odd, is it not? Our dance shoes are with us, our beaus are not. Our auburn hair may or may not changed colors, but you know, Anne, we were forunate enough to survive. Dancing was so beautiful years ago, as were we, and still are)) I just know it from the beauty of your soul. Take care)) Cheers, Panagiota

Oh thank you Panagiota for your wonderful words, yes it is sad that all that's left now are the dancing shoes, oh well some beautiful memories too. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

Oh the memories of former days for you Ann, I'm afraid I could never dance but admired those who can. This is nicely penned with lovely rhyme and flow. Have a great day, Gordon

Thank you so much Gordon, but I am not a great dancer really, only in my head and dreams haha... Many thanks for your lovely comments Gordon and I hope you are enjoying some warm spring sunshine like the rest of us. Kindest thoughts Ann xx

very emotive and nostalgic. You were well inspired by the phrase night shoes! I used to love to dance, but thanks to the condition left me by Prolia, I am unable to dance any more. When I try to dance, I make myself dizzy!!!

Oh thank you so much Andrea for your lovely comments. So sorry to hear you are now unable to dance, such a shame and to feel dizzy is so unpleasant and disorientating. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

Nostalgia brings such joy when we are no longer able to do the things of youth. There is joy too in knowing we are all in the same boat as we age. I loved your magic shoes poem Ann. Best of luck in the contest. I used to love to dance before my knees refused to let me. : ) xxoo

Oh such lovely comments Connie and glad you enjoyed my poem. I know what you mean about 'being in the same boat' haha... I never was a great dancer, but in my imagination I was Fred's Ginger, I had the auburn hair, but not the dancing feet! With kindest thoughts Ann xx

Thanks Jan but this was purely fiction, for Frank and I could just about manage a romantic 'creep' around the dance floor haha! I love watching the old Fred and Ginger movies and in my head I can dance just like them, I wish! Happy days... kindest thoughts Ann xx
