News At Noon

It's hard for him to buy a gun--
He's already got a rap sheet on him
His driver's license is suspended--
So he borrows one...

His clothes are grubby; sometimes he smells bad
Teachers make fun of him in the staff lounge
Other kids tease him behind his back
But he knows...

He can always hang around the south parking lot after 10:30 a.m.
The security guy goes around to the north lot for about 45 minutes then
Look! --a car with the keys in the ignition and the doors unlocked
He slides into the driver's seat...

It's 11:15 now. He drives over to the north lot. He's got 45 minutes in here
He sees the knot of kids at 11:47 a.m. They're heading his way
A fiendish howl wells up within him ~ It sits behind clenched teeth

He ducks down under the steering wheel. They can't see him
EEEEEE! A screech of tires and he's on them instantly
~ a tiger on its prey
       ~ they freeze
           ~ they're roadkill
              ~ BAM! He's got 'em

  Headline News at Noon:
Four dead, three injured critically, including suspect
at school in sleepy village hamlet...

Gershon, I visited yesterday, didn't know what to say. Still don't. I really appreciate this piece. It's something about empathy. Society is losing it steadily. xomo

Yeah, I just kind of laid this one out there...No message, really...Just recorded what happens...I don't know what to say either. ~ Gershon

It just shows that violence can strike anywhere today. Doesn't have to be a busy town or city. Tom

You're so right, Tom. ---And none of the school shootings has been in a big city! ~ Gershon
