New Year's Resolutions
New Year’s Resolutions
I could give up my drinking and my running around
With all the loose ladies that I find downtown
I could give up my smoking and my evil ways
And resolve to do better in the coming days
I could give up the candy that I love to eat
And eat far more fish and far less red meat
I could go to the gym for more exercise
And tame my beer belly and my thunder thighs
I could read some more books and watch less TV
I could do all these things for a far better me
I could swear on a bible that I’d do these things
And not give in to temptations that each new year brings
I could and I would but I know myself
My New Year’s Resolutions just go on a shelf
To be dusted off with each New Year’s Eve
Like everyone else’s resolves I believe
So maybe this year I should just face the fact
I am who I am and I act like I act
And no list of improvements that I don’t follow through
Will change what I know I’ll eventually do
This year my resolve will come with a twist
I hear by resolve to just give up this list
