New Year's Eve In District Six
There once was a village between the mountain and the sea,
enchanted with people of vast diversity.
Some were the descendants of slaves who were freed
merged along cultural lines regardless of race or creed.
Now many a tale, I have been told,
about this village, where young and old
Would gather for an occasion annually
in celebration of freedom and transnationality.
Their musical instruments was the heart-beat of the town,
Beating to a rythm both soul-penetrating and profound.
With brightly coloured suits, shuffling their dancing feet
Amusing painted faces, galavanting in the street.
The twelve months have now ended and the street's alive with cheer
Fireworks light up the sky with wishes of "Happy New Year!"
