New Routine
My work days will no doubt be different
Than many of the days I've had before
The first thing that I will take notice of
Is there's no 'Good Morning' greeting anymore
Moving forward is bound to be baby steps
And for me, it will be a hard week
Especially if you, on your own accord
Decide to avoid me and rather not speak
Seven long, distressing days have passed
Since I tearfully read you my letter
It seemed like you hid your emotion
As we sat on that park bench together
I was at the point where I just wanted it over
And to be done with that painful endeavour
I left not knowing how it affected you
Other than having no remorse for my displeasure
When I thought about you on your long drive back
I wondered if, when you stopped to take a rest
You paused long enough to re-read those words
Or even thought about all that I had said
So today's agenda was quite an adjustment
In trying something different with my time
Instead of our chats during lunch hour
I ended up writing myself this little rhyme
I've resisted the urge to reach out to you
It's taking all of my willpower to comply
But if this is how you want things to end with us
Then sadly, you've chosen to not say goodbye
