New Kid At School
I was the new kid at school in grade five
I didn’t know a soul, nobody knew I was alive
I had snazzy new shoes that were lime green
Looking back they were borderline obscene
It was way before vibrant green was in fashion
Yet I looked quite outstanding and ready for action
Especially when I wore them with my purple dress
My loose red curls and freckles sure to impress
I don’t recall anyone making fun of me
Except maybe that one big mean bully
She was probably jealous of my lime green shoes
Sometimes I dreamt of landing her a bruise
In the school yard giving her a shoe imprint or an elbow
Ah! my shoes immortalized forever in my class photo
